The Wanted Book Blurb

It seemed like a simple case–before the bodies starting piling up. Investigator Elvis Cole and his partner, Joe Pike, take on the deadliest case of their lives in the new masterpiece of suspense from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author Robert Crais.

When single mother Devon Connor hires private investigator Elvis Cole, it’s because her troubled teenage son Tyson is flashing cash and she’s afraid he’s dealing drugs. But the truth is devastatingly different. With two other partners in crime, he’s been responsible for a string of high-end burglaries, a crime spree that takes a deadly turn when one of them is murdered and Tyson and his girlfriend disappear.

They stole the wrong thing from the wrong man. Determined to get it back, he has hired a team that is smart and brutal, and to even the odds, Cole calls in his friends Joe Pike and Jon Stone. But even they may be overmatched. The hired killers are leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. A few more won’t make any difference.

What Did Duffy Think Of The Wanted?

I had no idea that The Wanted was part of a Cole/Pike series by Robert Crais. There seems to be a few in the series and I picked this up and thoroughly enjoyed it as a stand-alone thriller. The pace is fast and I found myself reading past my bedtime to find out what happened and what the ‘wrong thing‘ and the ‘wrong man‘ were.  When the big reveal came, I didn’t see it coming, although I felt that the cat and mouse game happened all the way through the book and the ending all wrapped up suddenly in a page or two.

Amber, one of the characters aggravated me most of the time, and even in her more redeeming moments I kinda hoped the worst for her (aren’t I terrible!), but I really loved Cole, even if he has a silly first name and I want to seek out more of the series to see if PIke gets more page time. If he doesn’t, he should.

I also loved the little touches, such as Cole’s relationship with his cat, and his ex-partners child.  It wasn’t too soppy, but just enough to give a glimpse of off-duty Cole.

If you love a race to the finish, fast-paced thriller,  The Wanted and the rest of the Cole/Pike series will quench your thriller thirst!
