The Silent Patient

As you will see, it’s an incredible story—of that there is no doubt.
Whether you believe it or not is up to you.

Promising to be the debut novel of the season The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive…

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander. A mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations. A search for the truth that threatens to consume him.

Duffy’s Thoughts On The Silent Patient

WHOAH! It’s been a long while since I’ve read a good thriller and I’ve missed the suspense, tension and plot twists a good thriller can bring.

The Silent Patient is a very classy psychological thriller. The characters will intrigue you and it delivers a plot twist that will knock the wind out of you. I just stared at the page in shock as I didn’t see it coming at all! I can’t tell you too much more about the story, other than what’s in the book blurb. I’m afraid to give the game away and I would hate to ruin the read for my fellow bookworms. Suffice to say I highly recommend this read and a tip my cap to author Alex Michaelides. If this is his debut novel, I can’t wait to read what comes next.

The film rights have been bought by Brad Pitt’s production company and Stephen Fry quotes it as “brilliant’. So what more can I say to that! I thoroughly enjoyed the read and the complex layers of the human psyche brought to the fore. An original and smart thriller which will leave you shaking your head in disbelief.
