the second piece of French toast

Feel in a funk? author Hilary A. Burns shares her story about finding yourself after 14 years of marriage.

As a single woman, I used to have it all. I was thin, athletic, smart, successful, and sociable. When I got married, I thought my life would only improve. But before I knew it, 14 years had gone by, and I was 40 pounds heavier. Not only was I miserable in my relationship, but I was miserable in my body.

A comment from my daughter shocked me into action: “You’re too old to look good.”

I am? I asked myself.

My high school classmates told me I had been fun and energetic. What happened to that laughing, happy Hilary who had danced and been so confident on her wedding day? I didn’t know.

This is my story—from numbing my emotions to opening up to the people around me. Come along on my journey towards self-confidence, acceptance, and regaining my true self.
