Duffy’s Review

So, I need to start by saying I loved the first two Terminator movies, the others, not so much. Just watching the replay of Terminator 2 on the weekend took me back and reignited my love for the franchise and got me excited for the new movie. I was not let down.

The plotline for Genysis begins with John Connor, who is about to take down Skynet, finally. Things do not go to plan and it is up to Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese to head back in time and stop the creation of Genysis (Skynet) and save the world from the rule of the robots.

Terminator Genysis goes back to the formula that worked for it in the first two movies, minus the blood and violence (new rating to reach the masses). However, the pluses are laughs, bags of action, epic chase scenes and serious jump in your seat moments. The time travel story which was created to make the movie work this time around was more than a little thin, but on the flipside, how they explained Arnie’s age was quite clever and the new robots and cyborgs were awesome!

So,there are a few time plots that are a little hard to swallow, even for a futuristic, make believe world where robots rule! But, the fans won’t care about that. They will be in awe of the special effects, jumping out of their seats and waiting for Arne and his classic one liners.

John Connor, played by Jason Clarke, is by far my favourite character. There is something about the way he looks, and plays John Connor. I felt he was channeling Bill Murray a little bit (well, alot!)and that was just fine with me. Loved the switch in character and the rest of the cast held their own against the Arnie draw card.

An epic blockbuster that any action fan will get into and any Terminator fan will love. I thoroughly recommend Vmax for the best experience. If you are looking for deep characters, intelligent plot and oscar winning acting, you should give this movie a swerve. If you are looking for fun, special effects, action and two hours of pure entertainment, then this movie will become a fast favourite.

4 out of 5 for reliving a classic movie, giving me a cracking night out and bringing Arnie back to his best.
