10 cloverfield lane

10 Cloverfield Lane centres around Michelle, a young woman who flees her relationship and her home. Driving through the night to escape her problems, she loses control of her car, is knocked unconscious  and wakes up in a self-made, underground bunker. The well equipped bunker is designed and built by a lonely man called Howard, who resides with another man at, you guessed it, 10 Cloverfield Lane.  He tells her that the world as she knows is it over and that they must all stay safe in the bunker.  Is he a good samaritan, or a maniac? Did she run from one sort of trouble into something far worse?

JJ Abrams does stellar work here with a film with so much tension at times it is palpable. There were a couple of times I gasped out loud, yet there is a fine balance of scares with dark, delicate humour which Goodman carries off perfectly.  Visually, the film is big and you find yourself looking around every inch of the screen so you don’t miss anything, and it’s the first screening in a long while that brought cheers and a round of applause come credit rolling time.  The skeleton cast of three hold their own, but its John Goodman who engages you and carries you on this creepy, slick, suspenseful ride.

I won’t give away the ending, but I strongly suggest you make this a date night movie this week!  This movie is getting solid reviews and will be a box office smash for sure.

After taking matters into her own hands, the young woman finally discovers the truth about the outside world….
